Mary to Majo no Hana ( メアリと魔女の花 Meari to Majo no Hana ? , Lit: “Mary and the flower witch”) , distributed internationally under the title Mary and the Witch’s Flower , it is an animated film Japanese of 2017 directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi . This is the first film produced by Studio Ponoc [1] , an animation studio in which many animators of Studio Ghibli converged, and it is the animated transposition of the children’s novel The Little Broomstick by the British writer Mary Stewart, published in Italy by Mondadori with the title La piccola scopa [2] . The film was released on July 8th, 2017 in Japan.
Mary Smith is a ten-year-old girl who is spending boring holidays at her great-aunt’s country house. One day, however, following a black cat in the woods, he finds a strange blue flower and an enchanted broom, on which he can fly. Mary remains so involved in a magical adventure and will find herself fighting a terrible witch.
Mary to Majo no Hana was distributed by Toho in 458 Japanese theaters on July 8, 2017. [3] Altitude Film Sales announced at the Berlin International Film Festival that it had acquired the feature film rights to distribute it across the UK , [4] ] while Madman Entertainment would deal with Australia and New Zealand , [5] presenting it on 5 November 2017 at the Madman Anime Festival in Melbourne , and GKIDS of North America, projecting it in few theaters on January 18, 2018, before a wider distribution since 19 January.
In Italy, the film was premiered on 1 May 2018 at the Napoli Comicon and distributed to the cinema from 14 to 20 June by Lucky Red .
